“The Party” – Day 22 of National Poetry Month

A wheel of cheese, a cellar full of wine
A seat with my name specially arranged
To reach my favorite dishes and to see
The host when toasts and blessing are exchanged
By uninvited invitation called
Though inconvenient, all appointments changed
With no one quite themselves as they arrived
To feast a host we knew to have estranged
So wine we drank, as much as we were able
For an enemy who asked us to his table
