“Habits” – Day 24 of National Poetry Month

Tomorrow is another day
To lose the war another way
To flub the words you’d like to say
To fail again and run away
To think your thoughts are all cliche
To hate the game, refuse to play
To learn your hairs are turning gray
To hide the face you won’t display
To sleep in June and wake in May
To hear commands and just obey
To chant the words you used to pray
To harden flesh again to clay
Tomorrow is another day
