From a Road-Tripper

I’ve never been to Yellow Stone
I barely remember Colorado
I vividly imagine Maine
Detroit is slipping through my fingers

On the way from Kansas to Georgia
I cut through the bottom tip of Illinois
And visit Metropolis because I’m
Not Superman enough to see Chicago

The snow outside is sandy
The sand outside is red
The sea is falling from the mountains
The cobblestone sidewalk is a beach

New Orleans should be known for its trees
New York is a fish market
Los Angeles has everything
Wichita has nothing
Atlanta takes forever
Washington takes always
Meet me anywhere but St. Louis

What is the history of a busy footpath?
Whose fingerprint is on a museum door?
Name it after your narrative
But don’t tell them
Something happened here
